Stand Up to Parkinson’s — A Global Movement to Slow the Progression of Parkinson’s Through Exercise
STAND UP TO PARKINSON’S represents a global community dedicated to the belief that exercise can slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease.

The Sit to Stands challenge is a global movement aimed at raising awareness and support for people living with Parkinson’s disease. This challenge is part of the Stand Up to Parkinson’s initiative, organized by the Parkinson’s community.
Why Sit to Stands? Sitting and standing are actions we all perform daily. However, for those with Parkinson’s, maintaining balance can become increasingly difficult over time. The great thing about Sit to Stands is that they involve a functional movement that can be adjusted based on individual ability. Sit to Stands engage stability muscles, which can help increase mobility, independence, and improve balance.

Light up Canada for World Parkinson’s Day
On April 11, 2026, for World Parkinson’s Day, Canada will participate in the global Spark the Night initiative, illuminating buildings, bridges, and landmarks in blue to raise awareness for the over 12 million people living with Parkinson’s worldwide. Major sites like CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and BC Place are expected to join this, coordinated by PD Avengers.

As part of a past initiative “Light up Canada for World Parkinson`s Day“, several community buildings and landmarks, including Mississauga City Hall and the Port Credit Lighthouse did their part to raise awareness about Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and ways to make lives better for people with PD.
If you see a building or landmark lit up in blue and it is safe to do so, take a photo and post it on social media using #passionforparkinsons and #canadastandswithparkinsons
